P90X Tony Horton PromoHey guys, I wanted to take a moment and review a pretty powerful home workout system called P90X.

I was first turned on to P90X about 9 months ago when I started seeing a few of my Facebook friends sharing some before and after pictures on their profiles.  What really sold me on the system was when I saw one of my best friend post pictures just 45 days through the program and I was completely shocked at how much he transformed that quickly!

I ordered up the system and some basic supplements and workout gear and got started with the program.  Within 2 weeks I started seeing some physical results that motivated me more than I have been in a long time.  For example, when I started I could only do one full pull up from a dead hang, and if I just ate a meal, I couldn’t even pull myself all the way up!  Within 2 weeks I was able to do sets of about 6-8 pullups 3x in a row!  Just this one result in itself gave me huge respect for P90X because I could truly “feel” the difference and experience a stronger body that quick.

P90X Resources

P90X FACEBOOK GROUPWhen I first started using P-90x I wasn’t sure exactly how the program worked, so one of the first things that I did was set up a P90X Facebook Group where any fans of the program could post pictures or status updates to assist myself and anyone else with their first 90 days.  This turned out to be a great resource because it allowed newbies like myself to post questions in the discussions area and get feedback from seasoned users of the program.

Here are examples of a few of the topics that people were discussing in the forums:

  • PeakRecoveryFurmulaPacketsRecovery Drink – What is a good alternative drink?
  • P90X Equipment – Anyone know where to get the best deals?
  • P90X and running?
  • Body Type & P90X
  • I love P90X but I think the price is overwhelming
  • What would be a good alternative to YogaX?
  • What Chin Up Bar should I buy?
  • Rookie questions…
  • Resistance Bands vs Dumbbells
  • Ab Ripper X Questions!!!
  • Here is the recommended equipment to use with P90X
  • P90X Daily Tracker Group
  • P90X “Classic” Workout Routine
  • Recovery Drink – what’s with the sugar?

If you are considering using P90X as your workout system then definitely join that Facebook group and network with others to make sure you have the best success.  Here are some photos and success stories to help you see the benefits that can be obtained by using this program.

P90X Nutrition Guide

Most people think that it’s just about working out, but the reality is that the most important part of a successful workout program is the nutrition program.  Here are a few resources to browse through to help you understand the logic behind the P90X diet and why it makes sense.

P90X Equipment

Powerblock DumbbellsWhen I first got started, I didn’t go too crazy with buying equipment, but I at least wanted to have the essentials.  Here is what I would recommend to at least start with for now:

  • Power Block Dumbbells
  • Resistance Bands
  • Pull Up / Chin Up Bar
  • Yoga Mat & Blocks

Additional equipment can include a heart rate monitor, body fat tester, push up stands, etc.  You will need to decide what you want to purchase based on your budget.  See if there is a Play it Again Sports store near you, or some type of second hand store for these items.  Try searching Craigslist as well.  If not just purchase them online or at a retail store.

P90X Photos & Success Stories

Steve after P90X

Left Side – Here is a picture of my good friend Steve in California at Day 1 just starting P90X. He weighed 255 pounds, and was so embarrassed he almost didn’t want to show this photo to anybody.

Right Side – Here is Steve at Day 45 in his P90X routine! He started seeing dramatic results so quickly and this is what motivated me to really take a look at P90X.  It’s one thing to see random pictures of success stories on the internet and television but when you see it in real life with a close friend, it can turn a skeptic into a believer :)

I started becoming friends with several average and ordinary people on Facebook that were using P90X and was blown away by the results they were getting.  Here are just a few before and after pictures from some of my Facebook friends:

Great Article!! I've beeen doing P90X for just over a year now, and it's changed me physically& emotionally. I did'nt realize how popular P90X was until I went to Tony's waikiki beach camp this past weekend. WOW, it's like my little neighbourhood has it's own beachbody community with some serious do'ers. =)
  • This is a great site. I have done p90x a couple of times and there is nothing like it for people who claim boredom at the gym. Its all kinds of variety in the program and they are challenging to say the least. I definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to transform their body!
  • hillis
I have been doing P90X since Jan 09 and have lost a total of 30 lbs. I had tried doing workouts myself at the gym but I needed a structured program that laid it out step by step so P90X was what I found. I was getting so many questions on what I was doing it was a natural progression to become a Beachbody Coach. Right now I love mixing the One on One workouts with the P90X workouts.
  • how can i continue doing p90x when im busy most of the time and i only work out 2 or 3 times a week?? how did u guys do it??
  • That is why programs like P90X are so powerful. Because they tailor to people who do not have enough time to commit to gym memberships, driving back and forth, etc. This is a home-based workout program that you can fit into your existing schedule.

We all get the same 24 hours in each day. We just choose to allocate them differently. If health is an important factor in your life, then it would make sense to dedicated the necessary time to take care of it. When you look at your busy schedule, what is it filled with? Many people choose to spend the majority of their time making money, just to pay their bills, and get no true fulfillment out of it. I believe in a balanced approach where you write down the important things in your life, and make the time to balance them to see true fulfillment.

P90X can be done from home in as little as an hour a day. 90 minutes would be ideal if you can fit it in. The results come quick, so it is well worth the time to set aside. Take a look at your schedule and figure out where you can squeeze an extra 90 minutes per day and make it happen! You will love the results :)

    P90X helped me overcome anorexia.
yes, i know this isn't ur average story, but it's true. i was going going through a phrase when i neither ate nor execised, and was in BAD physicial shape. then a friend recommended some P90X workouts and i loved it from the start. the best thing was that after Cardio X(the one i started with) within an hour i just HAD to eat- and i could eat guilt-free. within a month or two i was eating normally, doing the workouts that i could(have a knee injury), had gained weight and felt great! P90X ,and the appetite the workouts gave me,combined with the support of my friend and some counseling, have helped free me completely from anorexia. Thanks, Tony. P90X Rocks!

    Gotta love P90X. It's Great!!!!

Im an avid P90X user as well as Tony's other programs, P90X+ and his One on One series! The program works, but you only get out of it what you put into it. It is not a magic pill and requires hard work and dedication. Tony helped me go from 265 pounds and 38% body fat to 195 pounds and 10%....I HAVE ABS!!!! Went from a "Keg" to a "Six Pack" thanks to Tony!
  • On March 16, 2009 I began P90X. P90X is more than a workout, it's a whole new way of thinking. There's a nutrition plan that partners with the workouts that changes each month as the workout does. This methodology feeds the body for each stage of the entire fitness plan. I finished Round I (90 days) on June 13, 2009 and it kicked my butt!
My body and entire way of thinking transformed:

    - Lost 15 lbs. (without trying)
    - Waist shrunk 35" to 32.5" and hips 38" to 36"
    - Core became defined for the first time in my life
    - Energy level sky rocketed

I went in as a skeptic about the whole "muscle confusion" philosophy but seeing is believing. The "Husky" Kid disappeared and all I could really do was thank God for getting me through the Living Hell called P90X.
  • Johnny
Hey there. I did p90x, and lost 22 lbs. Didnt follow strict tho, and could have lost a few more. Going to start p90x plus this weekend, and hope to get rid of that last 10 lbs and be as ripped as those guys on TV.......thanks for sharing.
  • Great review. Very concise and to the point. P90X is really more than a 90 day in home fitness program. It is Fitness 101. The principles that Tony sets out in P90X cross over to multiple sports and the program can be customized very easily. Add in P90X+ and the One on One's and you can focus on virtually any weakness and build strength. Nutrition is extremely important to having success with any fitness program, and P90X is no exception. Great before and after pics as well. It is always inspirational to see people who have taken control of their fitness and their lives and made the change. Kudos to all of you.

P90X rocks! The chest and back exercises took my bench from 315lb to 345lb. I only weigh 182lbs! I love P90X, I love being a BeachBody Coach, and I love promoting Health!
  • Hi, Chris - I started P90X after I saw what my brother had accomplished after using it. You're right about the direct testimonial and you can't help but get excited about it when you see the results in person. I'm getting back into the program and this will be my 3rd round with a 3 month break in between. Note to newbies - DON'T STOP THEN THINK YOU CAN JUMP BACK IN AGAIN!! Wow, I forgot how sore I was after the first week! Just remembering how good I felt after working out is worth the pain of starting over! Have a great time with it - I know I will...
  • Great tip! I think it's worth repeating: "Don't stop and then think that you can easily jump back in again". The program works when you work it. I too stopped mid way and noticed that while I still had increased strength and energy, it was more difficult to jump back in again. Thanks for the reminder!

I'm glad you liked my Day 1 to Day 60 pictures... I will have to send you my Day 150 shots! You wouldn't believe it.
  • Adam, please send your 150 day photos! I will update the blog post with them. You can send them to me on Facebook, or contact me at: cashflowchampion --@-- gmail.com.

My wife and I started the P90X system 180 days ago. we have moved on to the One on One with Tony, and i must tell you if you love P90X you will love the One on One disc. We used the recovery drink, protein bars and meal replacement powder as well as buying the power bands. Looking back on the past 6 months, i can honestly say, and I think my wife would agree, that P90X was the best decision we ever made. We realize our different our lives are now and look forward to continuing the use of Tony's workout programs. I'm 42 and i love P90x.
  • This is an amazing testimonials for P90X. I haven't had a chance to check out the One on One program yet, but pretty much anything that Tony Horton does is solid! I will have to look into it. Thanks for taking the time to share :)

What a great article Chris! P90X can be a great way to get the body of your dreams! ..i especially love Ab Ripper X!! :-)
  • The Ab Ripper X rocks! I finally got to a point where I could complete all the sets, but the kicker is that it comes at the end of a grueling workout! It sure is tough to follow Plyometrics with such a strong Ab workout. But well worth it. Are you still doing Crossfit as well?
  • kyletgarrett
Congrats Chris, that's no easy task! ..it took me a while to build up to completing all sets of Ab Ripper too. I'm glad to hear you're still following through with P90, few people do.

Absolutely! I've been continuing to excel very fast in Crossfit setting some new regional records as well as just being stronger and more toned than ever before!

I am 70 days into P90X and I have already lost 17lbs and put on about 10 lbs of muscle. I think this is a great workout and plan on sticking with it. Thank you Tony!
  • I had great results with P-90X as well. I started at 225 and ended down at around 181. Since then, I've continued to do P-90X+ and started training to do a Half Iron Man in April of 2011. I went from cold turkey, no running, to running 3 miles unwinded JUST from the P-90X cardio work.

You'll get a ton of traffic as Tony just linked to your page from Facebook.
  • Wow John that's awesome that you lost 25 pounds! Preparing for a Half Ironman can be tough but I believe that P90X can get you there. I am glad to see that you have seen such amazing results!
