Unstrapp’d Episode 102 – Business on the Back Nine

In episode 2 of Unstrapp’d, Social Spin President Chris Record gets an opportunity to play a round of golf with CFO Bill Dully and his investor friend.  Chris get’s a little impatient and starts pitching the investor right off the bat, which may end up killing the deal.  In the process Chris learns a valuable lesson about “Saving Business for the Back Nine“.

Meanwhile, the team back at the house are brainstorming how to get sales videos edited on time for the launch of the Free Blog Factory.  The deadline is literally the following day so Kyle Garrett has to stay up the entire night editing the videos and is a little nervous about hitting the deadline.

The goal of the early episodes of Unstrapp’d is to help viewers get to know a little more about each character as well as give a real behind the scenes look at building a $100 million dollar company.  Some scenes will be more exciting than others, but every single day will be different and will be REAL.

There are no professional actors here, just a group of entrepreneurs willing to let their lives be shared publicly with the world in hopes to teach through mistakes and successes.

In this episode there are some obvious lessons learned from mistakes on the golf course, and sacrifices being made to hit deadlines as part of the cost of being a startup company.

  2. The investor looked worn out. Great lesson learned.
Thanks for the Video. It would be interesting to hear your pitch.
Was it product based or Market data based ?
Most business owners go with the Product based information
When the Market Based Data is what captures more interest.
A product based pitch will capture only 3% of your Dream clients
where a Market Data Based pitch will appeal to about 70%.

My pitch is a breakdown of where we are currently (actuals), what our future looks like (projections), what we will use the money for, and what our unique selling proposition is. The video makes it look worse than it really was (or at least that's how I choose to see it :)

The investor was prepared that we were going to be playing golf, but that he would hear about my investment. He also knew there was a video camera and a show. He also knew that drama makes for a better show. Taking that into consideration, there were lots of great scenes that didn't make the cut because YouTube restricts videos to less than 10 minutes.

Donald, I would really like to catch up with you. When you get a free moment, let's chat about collaborating on some JV deals and mutual contacts…
